Is it Mobile Home, Manufactured Home or a Modular Home?

  Mobile, Manufactured and Modular Homes Mobile Homes, Manufactured Homes and Modular Homes, you often hear these terms used interchangeably.   Believe it or not, each of these are different!   While all are built in a factory and moved to their destination, they do have some distinct differences.   Let’s take a look: Mobile homes, some call them “trailers,” are referred to as pre-HUD homes.   A pre-HUD unit is built prior to June 15, 1976.   They are built on a chassis that allows the unit to be moved.   They are built in a factory to their completeness and then delivered to their destination.   While they can then be hooked up to local utilities and in some cases put onto a foundation they are in general moveable. Manufactured homes are also built on a chassis and are built in their entirety at the factory often in segments, and then shipped to their destination to be assembled on sight.   Each segment is generally on its own frame known as an I-beam.   The I-beams are attached
